Rebecca Winters Doll
Description
Rebecca Winters, 1847 Mormon Trail Doll
Rebecca Winters was on the first wagon train out of Nauvoo, Illinois in 1846 that traveled through Iowa in the bitter cold winter. Her family brought Ira Elder with them to Iowa. The Winters family wintered in Florence, Nebraska, then continued on to Utah in 1847.
Her story tells about leaving Omaha, Nebraska in the spring of 1847 and journeying across Nebraska in a covered wagon. The real-life Rebecca Winters is buried near Scottsbluff, Nebraska. A replica of this doll was donated and is on display at the North Platte Valley Museum in Gering, Nebraska.
Rebecca is a 17 inch soft body and vinyl doll made by Lissi Company. Rebecca comes wearing a dress, pinafore, bonnet, and pantaloon. Her clothing was handmade in Griswold, Iowa. She carries a basket of berries she picked at Winter Quarters, a journal in her pocket and a life sized story book telling the story of the real-life Rebecca Winters.
